Destination Weddings in Siena at Villa Cetinale

Where
Villa Cetinale is a grand aristocratic 17th-century residence located in the middle of a forest of oak and ilex at approx. 20 minutes west of Siena and one hour south of Florence.
Venue description
Designed in the Roman Baroque style, Villa Cetinale was built for Pope Alexander VII in 1680 and was home to popes and cardinals. It stands as a true epitome of Tuscan elegance and grace. In more recent years, the visitor’s book has been signed by names of high society, including Princess Margaret, Mick Jagger, and Kate Moss. The villa lies hidden at the end of a long dusty road, and when the iron gates open, the magnificent villa appears. This Baroque masterpiece is framed by an immaculate garden, praised by Edith Wharton, with a private pool, tennis court, lounges, and secret paths nestled amid statues, climbing roses, lilies, wisterias, and lemon groves.Welcoming interiors blend antique elegance with modern comforts, featuring vaulted ceilings that top beautifully furnished rooms adorned with original paintings and artworks throughout. On the ground floor, there is a loggia with marble tables for dining and a fully equipped kitchen. The house chef and maids add an extra layer of leisure and luxury, making it perfect for a luxury Tuscan wedding experience.
Far above the villa, on a hilltop reached by 300 steps, stands the Romitorio, a tiny monastery built to process the sins and absolutions of the cardinals who once lived there.

Wedding ceremony and reception
Symbolic wedding ceremonies can be celebrated in one of the many enchanting hidden areas of the manicured gardens. The Villa Cetinale gardens provide stunning spots and lawns suitable for both small and large wedding parties. For a Catholic wedding ceremony, there are beautiful Roman Churches located just 20 minutes away in the countryside, while for a civil ceremony, we recommend the enchanting Wedding Hall in Siena. The cocktail hour can be organized in the front garden of the villa, with its elegant façade as the perfect backdrop for stunning wedding photos. After the cocktail hour, guests are accompanied to the backside of the villa, where tables can be set up along a long lane lined by massive Italian cypresses, leading to the Romitorio. This location is ideal for large groups of guests, and in case of bad weather, a marquee rental can accommodate additional space since the indoor room is more suited to smaller groups (up to 30 guests).
The cutting of the cake and formal dances take place in front of the grand double staircase. Dancing parties can continue outdoors until midnight, with soft background music extending until 1:00 am. Availability of indoor halls for dancing depends on the number of guests attending, making it a perfect option for both intimate weddings and large weddings in Tuscany.
